Clarinet/ Tuba/ All Band
Mr. Auz is a band director and private lesson instructor. He holds a degree in music education from Western Illinois University and a Professional Educators License. Since graduating college, Mr. Auz has been teaching students of all ages, experience levels, and instruments! Many of his students have division 1 ratings and receive first chair placements. Some have even gone from last to first chair in their band programs! Most important to Mr. Auz is that, even if a student chooses not to pursue music as a career, they should still have enjoyed their education and be an advocate for it. Fine arts are so important to students because it teaches them self-expression
Ty Foster has been playing bassoon and oboe for nearly 12 years. He has been teaching at Melody Mart for several years now, and hopes to be here for many more. He is currently pursuing his Bachelors in Music Education and a career as a band director
Madeline has a B.S. in education from Ohio State University. She has been teaching at Melody Mart almost 20 years adding to her 23 years spent as a band director in the Matteson Schools. She especially enjoys teaching jazz.
All Brass/Beginning Band
Gary has been teaching beginning and middle school band in the south suburbs since 2009. During that time he has also performed with various groups around the area. He received his Bachelors of Music Education from Illinois Wesleyan University under the direction of many fine educators. In addition to his “day job” as a band director, he also directs an Alumni Drum Corps. in Rosemont, Il. He is well-versed on all band instruments and ensemble types including Concert Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Chamber Ensembles, Marching Band/Drum and Bugle Corps., Pep Band, and Pit Orchestra. Gary is a strong proponent of the arts as part of the school curriculum and is always excited to take on new students. Various studies have proven the cognitive, social, and physical benefits of studying music. Come on out and be a part of it all!!!
Dakari has been an active musician for about fifteen years, and is currently finishing his bachelor's degree in Instrumental Music Education from Millikin University. Dakari is a multi-instrumentalist and composer, with his main focuses being flute and trombone.
Brass/ All Beginning Band
Josiah Willitz has been a passionate musician since his days as a middle school trombone player. He studied music and education at two Minnesota colleges, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, MN) and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Martin Luther College (New Ulm, MN). After college, Josiah taught Band, Choir, and General Music in Minnesota for three years, before moving to Illinois. He is currently the Music Director at Illinois Lutheran High School in Crete, IL. Josiah is thrilled to be in the profession of music educator, having the daily opportunity to aid students in developing and building upon their talents.
I have performed in many ensembles in the surrounding Chicago area. While in high school I was selected for Jazz IMEA first year in the Jazz Combo, the second year playing Lead Tenor in the top jazz ensemble. While at NIU I have studied classical saxophone and clarinet for 3 years, and Jazz for 5.
Trumpeter Bobby Cooper hails from south suburban city of Markham. He attended the Northern Illinois School of Music, having graduated with dual Bachelor of the Arts degrees in Music Education and Jazz Studies. During his time there, he performed with the acclaimed NIU Jazz Ensemble (now orchestra) and NIU Wind Ensemble.
He has also performed with many local and established artists across genres, such as Donald "Buster" Woods, Alma Cook, Solange Knowles, and Sir Nose of the Parliament Funkadelic and is also featured the album "Lessons of Drought" by eclectic bassist Max Johnk. Currently, he is the music teacher at Caroline Sibley school in Calumet City and is also an applied artist at the Griffin Institute of Performing Arts.
