Meet Ashley Beck

Ashley Beck began her musical journey at the age of 8, discovering a passion for both piano and voice that would shape her future. With over 15 years of musical experience and a Bachelor's Degree, Ashley has spent the last decade teaching at Melody Mart, working with students of all ages. Her teaching career is grounded in a deep appreciation for music's ability to unite people.

Throughout her career, Ashley has been an active performer, participating as a pianist in South Suburban jazz combos, orchestras, and the South Suburban Symphonic Band. She has also been a key figure in vocal music, accompanying the Midwest Youth Choir, singing in gospel choirs, and co-founding Illinois Wesleyan University's first gospel choir.

Influenced by a range of artists from Florence Price and Rachmaninoff to Nina Simone and Esperanza Spalding, Ashley’s teaching covers all genres of music. She believes that music education should be both enjoyable and liberating for students. Her comprehensive teaching approach includes technique, theory, performance skills, and general music history, ensuring that her students experience a well-rounded education.

Ashley is passionate about creating an environment that focuses on balancing self-motivation with challenges that push students outside their comfort zones. In her view, students learn best when they’re having fun and feeling free. Her favorite teaching motto reflects this: “Engaging with music is about dedicating yourself to what brings you joy.”

For Ashley, every student is a star, and her goal is to help each one shine in their own unique way.
