Madai has been an integral part of Melody Mart since November 2022, teaching primarily early childhood. With her decade of experience in various educational settings, she has developed the early childhood program at Melody Mart.
Madai holds an Associate of Fine Arts degree from South Suburban College. Her journey in music began at the age of 10. Madai has performed in school bands, jazz bands, and marching bands since fifth grade. As an adult, she has performed with the SSC Symphonic Band, UIC Wind Ensemble, and the Chicago Philharmonic during the summer.
Madai's teaching philosophy centers on the belief that every student learns differently. She emphasizes the importance of a healthy relationship with music and its impact on a student's academic, social, and emotional development. She creates an engaging learning environment by prioritizing her students' mental and emotional well-being. Her methods include student-led lessons, goal setting, and repetitive practice to reinforce learning. Madai stated:
"Mental health is very important to me. So I make sure that the student is doing well physically, mentally and emotionally before I start teaching. If the student is having a hard time grasping a concept, it is important to emphasize that I am here to help and it is a safe space to make mistakes. I do not spend too much time on a concept if that is the case. To be more engaging I implement other small percussion instruments to aid in learning, introducing new concepts or approaching the same concept a different way."
Madai cherishes the connections she forms with her students and their families, considering them an extension of her own family. One memorable moment was helping a student learn to play "Happy Birthday" on the piano for his mother's birthday, showcasing the personal and emotional connections through music education. One of her most memorable moments at Melody Mart was the Open House 2024 event, reflecting the vibrant and welcoming atmosphere of the community. Madai eagerly anticipates Melody Mart's growth and looks forward to contributing to its ongoing success and development.
Madai enjoys a diverse range of musical styles, with a particular fondness for Pop, Rock, Latin Pop, Latin Rock, Indie Rock, Classical, Jazz, Blues, and Bossa Nova. Influential artists for her include Maná, My Chemical Romance, Shakira, Julia Michaels, SZA, Anitta, The Strokes, Juanes, Caifanes, and Mon Laferte, among others.
Her expertise spans across various instruments, and she primarily teaches children aged 2 to 10 years old. Students should bring any music books, a notebook, a pencil, an open mind, and a willingness to learn to their lessons.
